Each Year, an Auction with a Purpose...
" Summer Evening 2006,” Sunday, July 30 on the Dennis Village Green, marks the fifth year for the DCT auction. The event has grown with each passing year – with more attendees and donors participating in the festivities, enjoying the delicious food, partaking of “spirited beverages” and joining in the “spirited bidding” on the live and silent auction items.
What hasn’t changed in four years is the auction’s focus: raising money that goes directly to the Trust’s land conservation and preservation efforts.
In 2002 and 2003, the DCT auction proceeds helped “Save the Crowe,” resulting in the Town’s purchase of 33+ acres in East Dennis. Part of the proceeds from the 2004 auction went toward purchasing the 17-acre Seaview Playland parcel in Dennisport. For 2005 and 2006, the focus is on West Dennis, and Bass River. The Dennis Conservation Trust spearheaded efforts that resulted in the Town of Dennis acquiring a key parcel of land on Bass River, West Dennis with over 500 feet of water frontage. This will provide for public access to the water and water related uses in perpetuity. Last year’s DCT Auction proceeds went towards meeting the Trusts pledge of $500,000 toward this purchase. More money is needed to complete the Trust’s obligation for that pledge. The Trust has assisted the Town in securing commitments for $1.9 million dollars in Federal and State "Summer Evening 2005,” Sunday, July 31 on the Dennis Village Green, marks the fourth year for the DCT auction. As one auction-goer noted, “There’s so much that’s great about the auction – seeing your friends and neighbors … the food … the wine … the music … and then of course, there’s the auction!” Summer Evening 2005 promises to be an evening not to be missed – with auctioneer extraordinaire Bob Eldred at the gavel, and fabulous live and silent items, ranging from a week in a villa on Great Camanoe, Patriots and Sox tickets, hand-crafted furniture, artwork, and gift certificates, to “Lunch and a Round of Golf” with Dennis Police Chief Mike Whalen.

The best part of the evening is seeing the results. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers, the generosity of the bidders who attend the auction, and the donations from the Dennis business community and townspeople, all of our five villages are a little richer than we were the day before.
