The Annual Meeting of the Dennis Conservation Trust was held on August 28, 2010 at the Sears Memorial Library in East Dennis.Among others in attendance was Karen Johnson, Department Head of the Dennis Natural Resource Department as well as members and prospective members.
President Richard Johnston welcomed people to the meeting, explained plans for the meeting and indicated that the meeting would be followed by a tour of a property recently obtained by the Trust. He reported on the Trust’s recent activities, including a comparison of the Trust’s achievements with the accomplishments of other Cape Cod land trusts.
Kris Ramsay gave the Administrator’s report.He gave a brief description of the Trust’s history, described the Trust’s evolution of property acquisitions, outlined the Trust’s total gifts of land, land purchased, and land held within a conservation restriction, all of which totaled 518 acres of protected land. Kris compared the Trust’s accomplishments to other land trusts on cape, spoke on how community members can help out or volunteer, who the Trust collaborates with, and finished up by describing the Old Fort Field and Coles Pond Bog property acquisitions.
Treasurer Joseph Masse gave a brief financial report noting that income from memberships had increased due in part to the introduction of new categories of membership.
Chris Wadsworth reported that the Trust currently has 375 members, approximately 20 more than on a comparable date in 2009.He indicated that the 375 included 65 new members and that a letter had recently been mailed to those who had not yet renewed members.
There was a brief question and answer period after which the meeting was adjourned and members left for a tour of the property recently acquired from the Welch family.
